Sibusiso Makhunga

Sibusiso Makhunga is a self-taught artist from Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. After leaving his 9-5 job to pursue art full-time, he was mentored by renowned Congolese artist Thonton Kabeya. He made a strong debut in 2019 at the RnB Turbine Art Fair, selling out his work during a group exhibition with One Art Studio. Since then, he has exhibited with prominent galleries including Bag Factory, Alliance Françoise Durban, Tamasa Gallery, The Gallery, and Candice Berman Gallery.

His notable series include Labor in Development at the Workers Museum and the innocence of childhood’s Happiness, which featured in multiple solo and group shows. He has led workshops at John Ross College, S.O.S children’s village, and SPARKS Primary School, Promoting youth engagement in the arts.

in 2015, his series Undoubted Beauty was Featured in It’s Still Sunny Here in Johannesburg at Candice Berman Contemporary. That same year, he completed a professional printmaking workshop with The Arts Company Soweto, culminating in a group exhibition at constitution Hill, with collectors including African Bank and Joburg Arts & Culture.
